Aarambh, is Upasana’s bold effort to present intense Hindu philosophy through the dynamic yet delicate texture of Bharatanatyam (South Indian classical dance) in an accessible yet traditional style.

Entirely in Sanskrit and for the first time completely conceived and presented by Bharatanatyam artistes from the Northwest, Aarambh was premiered to a sold out audience at The Lowry and presented again at Waterside Arts Center in March – April 2006 to an won overwhelming response.

An original dance production to new music Aarambh investigates the concept of the single primordial energy, which draws an illusory veil of dualism to create the delusion of the world.and explores how all is but a part of this infinite supreme energy.

Through the narrator’s story, it elucidates profound philosophy in simple uncomplicated style along with exuberant, passionate presentation supported with arresting music making Arambh accesible to both young and old, the knowledgable and uninitiated.

The research by Sri M.H. Gopalakrishnan, Chennai was meticulous. The handpicked slokas were appropriate not only for the storyline and message but for dance as well. Soulfully rendered by Hari Prasad and supported by Sukhi, Anil Kumar, Kalaiarasan and Sashi, the music recorded in Chennai was ethereal.
