“Encouraging acceptance and respect through arts”

Deepa Ganesh, Artistic Director

A mixed media project of video, photography, performances and workshops, “Who am I?” explores identity of recent Indian immigrants by reflecting on its classical art heritage.

Our dance performance at The Lowry introduces the audience to a 3000 year old dance style, Bharatanatyam from the temples of South India.  Apart from exploring the five elements and a popular Hindu character, Krishna, we also look at bullying and its resulting frustration at home between parent and child.

“Who am I?” as a project, focuses on the belief that artistic heritage helps people explore their identity and infuse confidence, as well as increase exposure, acceptance and respect for anything ‘new and different’.
